I am a software engineer based in Greece. I spent sixteen years maintaining open-source projects and integrating them into products running on millions of devices. Now I am starting a business focused on software engineering in the age of AI.

Creating software has never been easier or cheaper. With an AI agent, you can go from an idea to something working in a matter of days. But the price hasn’t disappeared; it has moved. A real-world product still has to be secured and maintained for the long term, and that is where software engineering experience matters.

I am a software engineer, and this is where my focus is: software engineering in the age of AI. I’ve been building with AI models and agents for the past few years, and nowadays I can’t imagine writing software without them.

There are two sides to it. One is the engineering around coding agents. An agent starts every session from nothing and, if you let it, it will confidently walk in the wrong direction. Keeping it on track means deciding what it gets to see, splitting the problem into small pieces of work and having a testing strategy. The other side is putting that intelligence inside the software itself, where it actually improves the user experience. And here too, the model is a component that forgets, that can be confidently wrong and that costs money on every request. Making it dependable is an engineering problem, not a magic trick.

For sixteen years, I worked at Collabora as an engineering consultant, contributing to and maintaining open-source projects. I contributed to GStreamer and PipeWire, and I created WirePlumber, the default session manager for PipeWire on mainstream Linux distributions. I reviewed code I didn’t write, kept it coherent while the projects grew, and integrated open-source components into products running on millions of devices, where mistakes can be expensive. The tools are new. The engineering is the same.
